Born to Fight ( Thai : เกิด มา ลุย ; Kerd ma lui ) is a 2004 Thai action film directed by Phanna Rithikrai .

action

The young Thai policeman Deaw, a member of a special unit of the drug search, loses his long-term partner, friend and direct superior in a huge explosion in a covert operation that leads to the arrest of the wanted drug king, General Yang. Burned out and stunned, he needs peace and quiet from everyday police work. Therefore, he decides to accompany his younger sister, who is involved in charitable institutions, on a humanitarian mission to a small mountain village near the Burmese border.

The convoy with Deaw and several top athletes finally reached the remote town. The donated aid goods and toys are generously distributed to the needy population. But the idyllic excursion soon turns out to be a fallacy, because that very village is attacked by a well-armed group of terrorists from the notorious Lowfei in order to blackmail the release of General Yang, who is to be extradited to the United States for his crimes. The cold-blooded fighters are extremely brutal and cause a real massacre among the villagers, to which many women and children also fall victim. The rest of the locals are interned, including Deaw's sister. At the same time, the mercenaries entrench themselves in the village and erect a missile with a nuclear warhead that is supposed to destroy Bangkok .

Thanks to his martial arts, Deaw himself can initially evade the murderous, highly armed henchmen. He succeeds in eliminating some mercenaries before he is caught and taken to the other hostages. However, since he has knowledge of the existence of the nuclear weapon, which is said to be somewhere in the village, he tries to persuade the captured, barely armed villagers to rebel, which he succeeds.

In the meantime, General Yang, who has been pressed free, is flown to the mountain village, where his like-minded comrades, who are constantly exposed to attacks by the locals, welcome him with joy. A wild, confusing material battle ensues with wild shooting bouts on both sides. Ultimately, most of the terrorists die at the hands of the athletes present or the villagers, while the general, who has just been released, is surrounded and arrested again by advancing special police units. The nuclear weapon is ignited anyway, but does not reach the Thai capital and sinks into the adjacent ocean without major damage .

At the end of the film, the idyllic village is badly damaged by an explosive charge, but countless locals are able to escape to safety. All fighting is stopped. All attackers are killed or are in police custody. In one of the last scenes, the grateful villagers say goodbye to the aid convoy with the volunteer helpers who are on their way home with Deaw and his sister.

Reviews

"Staging tiring, cheaply produced shooting orgy that suffocates its few action show values in a tangle of martial violence."
