Phanna Rithikrai ( Thai พัน นา ฤทธิไกร ; born February 17, 1961 in the province of Khon Kaen , Thailand ; † July 20, 2014 in Bangkok , Thailand) was a Thai film director , screenwriter , actor and stunt choreographer , who was mainly known through his participation gained international fame in martial arts films .

life and work

Phanna discovered his passion for action films at an early age and soon began working in the national Thai film industry, initially as a temporary worker in the national film industry of Thailand, where he worked with the most famous national actors of the time, Soraphong Chatree and Nappon Gomarachun. Later he had the opportunity to make his own "realistic action films" as a screenwriter, director and stunt choreographer.

The meeting with Tony Jaa , whom he promoted as his mentor, turned out to be a stroke of luck for him . He taught him various martial arts and perfected with him the Muay Thai Boran, a traditional variant of Muay Thai , which Tony Jaa became a celebrated action hero. With director Prachya Pinkaew , who, like Phanna Rithikrai, was impressed by Tony Jaa's abilities, he made the martial arts film Ong-Bak: Muay Thai Warrior in 2003 , for which he had previously trained in stunts with the leading actor for four years.

Phanna Rithikrai, who could look back on over 30 years of film experience, made over a dozen feature films as a director and screenwriter. In addition, he was also active as an actor, such as the evil opponent Dam of leading actor Dan Chupong in the martial arts film Born to Fight - Dynamite Warrior from 2006.

He died in a hospital in Bangkok from liver and kidney failure .
