Borovo is a company in Croatia that mainly manufactures and sells shoes , car tires and rubber . Today the company employs around 1,200 people. The annual turnover is 260 million Croatian kuna .

The Czechoslovak entrepreneur Jan Antonín Baťa (1898–1965) built the shoe factory in 1931 on the banks of the Danube near Vukovar , as a subsidiary of the Baťa shoe factory from Zlín ( Moravia ). The factory soon became the leading manufacturer and retailer of shoes in this part of Europe. For his workers and their families, Baťa built the Borovo Naselje housing estate next to the factory , now part of Vukovar.

Shoes made by Borovo were sold in 600 stores in the former Yugoslavia and through other dealers in other parts of the world. At the beginning of the Croatia war occurred in May 1991 in the nearby village of Borovo Selo to skirmish of Borovo Selo . In the subsequent battle for Vukovar , the local factory was destroyed and the Borovo naselje massacre took place . Before the production in Vukovar was interrupted by the Croatian war, 22,500 workers were employed at Borovo. In addition to the main plant, there were production facilities in the neighboring towns of Sombor , Donji Miholjac and Lovas . With annual sales of 300 million before the war dollars .

The advertising slogan of Borovo was: "Ne bojte se ni ni Kise blata, ako nosite kaljače Bata."

- "Do not be afraid of rain or mud as long as you wear the Bata boots."

In 1998, Borovo began restoring operations and production, as well as returning to the former and new markets. Furthermore, the production of leather shoes began. In the following nine years the company made it to the top of the Croatian shoe industry and won numerous awards at local and international trade fairs.
