Borstel (Low German Boess'l ) is a district of the city ​​of Verden (Aller) in Lower Saxony with just over 2000 inhabitants. The name comes from an ancient common in northern Germany designation for a small rural settlement .

history

Borstel was an independent small village . This emerged from a single farm documented in 1254. It has grown closer and closer to Verden over the centuries . In 2004 Borstel celebrated its 750th anniversary under the patronage of the Lower Saxony Minister for Social Affairs, Women, Family and Health.

On July 1, 1972 Borstel was incorporated into the district town of Verden.

The Protestant Cathedral congregation of the church district Verden maintains in Borstel since 1987 the Stephanushaus as a community center of their parish IV.

politics

In the local elections in 2016, the parties achieved the following results and the distribution of the ten seats in the village of Borstel:

Companies

The agriculture has for Verden-Borstel in the recent past with the development lost the usable land in importance. Meanwhile there is no longer any noteworthy livestock farming . Only a few arable land are tilled with grain . Borstel is known for its horse breeders.

Some of the local craft businesses have been in family hands for several generations. The national trainer for German dressage riders, Holger Schmezer , had his own dressage and training stable in this district.

At the end of the sixties the first supermarket in the Verden area was built in Borstel with the "Allermarkt" . Most important for the Verden youth was and is the Beuss dance school , which has been training dancers for more than 130 years .

education

Up until the 2009/2010 school year there was a primary school with 1st and 2nd grade in the village as a branch of the Friedrich-Ludwig-Jahn-Schule in Verden. There has been a kindergarten since 1970 and a daycare center since 1998 .

societies

There is a sports club in Borstel, the TSV Borstel. The Verden wind and youth wind orchestras are incorporated into this association . Only football is played in the teams of Borsteler FC, founded in 1990 by members of TSV Borstel. The Borstel rifle club has existed for more than 100 years and contributes to the cohesion of the residents not least because of its annual rifle festivals . Maintaining the history of the district is the primary goal of the Borsteler Heimatverein in Verden e. V. from 2004. The kindergarten has been supported by the Borstel Kindergarten since 2002 . There has been a Kyffhäuser comradeship in Borstel since 1969 . The first Borstler riding club has existed since the end of 2003 - the RG Kroneichenhof e. V.
