Borys Romanowytsch Hmyrja (* July 23 jul. / 5. August 1903 greg. In Lebedyn , Kharkov Governorate , Russian Empire ; † 1. August 1969 in Kiev , Ukrainian SSR ) was a Ukrainian operas - concert and lieder singer ( bass ) .
Life
From 1930 to 1935 he attended the Technical Building Institute in Kharkiv , which he graduated with honors. From 1939 he studied singing at the Kharkov Music Academy with Pavlo Holubjew ( Павло Васильович Голубєв ) and from that year was also, with interruptions, a soloist at the Kiev Opera until 1957 . During the Second World War he stayed in Ukraine and continued to perform there in occupied Ukraine.
Boris Hmyrya had almost 2000 appearances as a singer in the Eastern Bloc countries. His repertoire included about 1200 works, including more than 600 chamber music works: 290 Ukrainian folk songs and ballads, 179 Russian folk songs and ballads, over 100 Western songs and ballads, са. 77 opera arias as well as Ukrainian, Russian and Western classics.

- Trofim in the opera Naimytschka ("Servant") by Mychajlo Werykiwskyj
- Iwan Sussanin in the opera A Life for the Tsar by Michail Glinka
- Müller in the opera Russalka by Alexander Dargomyschski
- Méphistophélès in the opera Faust by Charles Gounod
Hmyrya died in Kiev in 1969 and was buried in the Baikowe Cemetery. A tombstone made by the Soviet sculptor Ksanfi Andrejewitsch Kuznetsov ( Ксанфий Андреевич Кузнецов ) was erected on the grave in 1979 .
Honors
In 1951 he became a People's Artist of the USSR , in 1952 he received the Stalin Prize and since 1960 Hmyrja has been a holder of the Lenin Order . The Ukrainian National Bank issued a two hryvnia commemorative coin on her 150th birthday in 2003 and the Ukrainian Post issued a postage stamp with his portrait.
