The Brøndby Hall (through sponsorship since 2016: EWII ARENA Brøndby ) is a multi-purpose hall in Danish Brøndby , a suburb of the capital Copenhagen . It is used for both sports and cultural events. The handball club KIF Kolding København plays its home games not only in the Sydbank Arena in Kolding but also in the EWII Arena Brøndby.
history
The hall is located next to Idrættens Hus ( German House of Sports ) at Brøndby Stadium in Brøndby. The arena opened in 1973. In the 1990s the building was completely renovated. It offers visitors up to 7,000 seats. One of the event highlights in the hall is the men's handball world championship in 1978 with the final between Germany and the Soviet Union (20:19). For the second time after the 1938 World Cup , the German team won the world championship. In 1982 the World Figure Skating Championships took place in Brøndby Hallen. In 2014 the men's European handball championship was played next to the Gigantium ( Aalborg ), the NRGi Arena ( Aarhus ) and the Jyske Bank Kasten ( Herning ) in the Brøndby Hallen. The hosts Denmark lost 32:41 against the French team .
