history

Brady Township was formed on January 31, 1855 from parts of Washington Township . It takes its name from the Brady family, some of whom lived within its confines. Until 1861 the area of ​​what is now Gregg Township in Union County belonged to Brady Township.

One of the most famous early residents of Brady Township was Judge William Piatt. Piatt was born on January 29, 1795. His father, John Piatt, had moved from New Jersey to the southern part of Lycoming County and started a tannery . His son followed him into the business, but soon became interested in local politics and was elected to the Pennsylvania General Assembly in 1830, to which he served for three terms. In 1855 Piatt became an associate judge. He also served as an auditor for the county and township.
