Berhampur ( Oriya ବ୍ରହ୍ମପୁର ) is a city in the east Indian state of Odisha . Berhampur is the anglicized form of Brahmapur .

The city is located in the district of Ganjam at an altitude of 24 m in the coastal plain 12 km from the sea. The Rushikulya River flows east 20 km north of the city and flows into the Bay of Bengal . Bhubaneswar , the capital of Odisha, is 150 km northeast of Berhampur.

The national highway NH 5 (Bhubaneswar– Chennai ) runs through Berhampur. The NH 59 branches off in Berhampur to Raipur inland. The city is on the Howrah –Chennai line of the South-Eastern / East Coast Railway .
