The Brandweer Corps Caribisch Nederland (BKCN) is the common fire service of the three politically to the Netherlands belonging BES Islands (special municipalities) Bonaire , Sint Eustatius and Saba in the Caribbean .

On October 10, 2010 ("10-10-10") the state structure of the Netherlands Antilles was dissolved. As a result, the independent countries of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Curaçao and Sint Maarten, came into being . The islands of Bonaire, Sint Eustatius and Saba were integrated into the Netherlands as special parishes . As a result, the previous individual fire departments on the three islands were dissolved and a joint fire department was set up.
Authority structure
The headquarters of the authority is in Kralendijk on Bonaire. The head of the agency is called the Algemeen Commandant . The position is currently (as of December 2016) Jair Gregory Tromp.
The authority is geographically divided into three units, each head of which is called the Lokaal Commandant .
- The unit on Bonaire is called Dienst Brandweer Bonaire and is based at Flamingo International Airport .
- The unit on Sint Eustatius is called the Sint Eustatius Fire Department and is based at FD Roosevelt Airport .
- The unit on Saba is called the Saba Fire Department and is based at Juancho E. Yrausquin Airport .

The BKCN has a target strength of 78 FTEs . These are distributed as follows: Bonaire: 47 FTEs, Sint Eustatius: 20 FTEs, Saba: 10 FTEs. The actual strength is 70.05 FTEs. The BKCN does not make use of the legally granted possibility to employ volunteers , so that it is a pure professional fire brigade .
tasks
The tasks of the BKCN include preventing fires and fighting fires that have occurred, preventing accidents , researching hazardous substances , advising other authorities and providing support in the event of disasters . The BKCN is also the airport fire brigade for the three airports on the islands and therefore has the appropriate equipment (e.g. airfield fire engines ). The main fire stations are located at the respective airports.
