The FD Roosevelt Airport ( IATA code EUX , ICAO code TNCE ) is the airport on the island of Sint Eustatius , one of the Special Communities in the Caribbean belonging to the Netherlands .

history

The airport opened as Golden Rock Airport in 1946 and was later named after the US President with Dutch roots, Franklin Delano Roosevelt .

location

The airport is located in a valley between The Quill volcano in the south and the hills of the northern part of the Quill / Boven National Park in the north, in the immediate vicinity of Concordia .

Facilities

The airport has an asphalt runway 1302 meters long and 30 meters wide. It can be approached by passenger aircraft the size of the Fokker 50 , ATR 42 , DHC-8 and cargo aircraft of the size of the Lockheed L-100 and DC-3 . The airport has had solar-powered approach lights since 1996 . The airport is only operated under visual flight weather conditions .

For airport security is the Royal Netherlands , for fire protection and fire fighting the fire Weer Corps Caribisch Nederland responsible. So far (as of 2019) there have been no flight accidents at the airport.
