Winair (actually Windward Islands Airways International ) is a Dutch airline based in Philipsburg in Sint Maarten and based at Princess Juliana International Airport .
history
Winair was founded in 1961 by the St. Barther pilot Georges Emilien Greaux and his partners Hypolyte Ledee and Chester Wathey. Initially, the new airline offered charter flights from Sint Maarten to Saba , Antigua and Sint Eustatius, among others . Over the years, other destinations in the Caribbean have been served .
On January 13, 2003, US Airways became Winair's first codeshare partner as a member of the Star Alliance . This partnership allows both Winair passengers and US Airways customers to have easier travel to the Caribbean or the USA .
