Air Aruba was the national airline of Aruba with seat and base in Oranjestad .
history
Air Aruba was founded in September 1986 by the government with Dutch support. The first flight took place on August 18, 1988 with the help of KLM Royal Dutch Airlines and Air Holland with a NAMC YS-11 . First, Air Aruba used turboprops in the form of three NAMC YS-11s, which were then replaced by two Embraer EMB 120s and supplemented by Boeing 757s for service to Miami . Later, the company only used its own and leased jets in the form of a Boeing 727 , three Boeing 737-300s and one Boeing 767, which were later replaced again.
Financial problems forced the government of Aruba to look for a new owner for the company and found it in the Venezuelan Aserca Airlines . Aware of its small size, a number of partnerships were entered into. In addition to KLM and Aserca, Continental Airlines and Air ALM should also be mentioned here. However, due to the explosion in costs and alleged management errors, all flights were suspended on October 23, 2000 and bankruptcy was filed .
Destinations
From Aruba Airport several places in the United States and South America were served. Flights to Amsterdam and Cologne / Bonn Airport followed later .
