The southern part (Quill National Park) has an area of 3.4 km². The dormant volcano The Quill has a height of about 600 meters. The slopes of the volcano are heavily forested. In larger quantities you can find the casha = sweet acacia , the white headed mimosa , the cinnamon apple , the kapok tree and the white gum tree ( Bursera simaruba ), various types of the cactus and caper family , some lianas and epiphytes .
In the crater and on the edge of the crater you can find the kapok tree, the yellow mombin plum , the white gum tree, mammi apple , the ant tree Cecropia schreberiana , the cocoa tree , species from the genus begonia and the bromeliad family .
The animal world is diverse. Here one finds habitat for many bird species, including the Antilles dove , the sugar bird , the coast dove , the common ground dove , the American Yellow Warbler , the Kestrel and on the endangered Red List species standing bridled quail-dove . The Green Island Guan, endemic to the Lesser Antilles , and the endangered snake Alsophis rufiventris, endemic to Saba and Sint Eustatius, can also be found here.
Northern part
The northern part (Boven National Park) has an area of 2 km². The hills formed by volcanism and erosion have a height of about 175 meters (Gilboa Hill) to about 290 meters (Boven) . The vegetation in the northern part had suffered greatly from agriculture and animal husbandry until the establishment of the national park . The vegetation is now recovering due to severe restrictions. Here include the teiidae Ameiva erythrocephala and the Green Iguana Island and the morning glory Ipomoea sphenophylla and 15 orchid species to be found.
