The National Park Drents-Friese Wold is a 6150 hectare, contiguous nature area on the border of the Dutch provinces of Friesland and Drenthe . The national park is one of the largest of the 18 parks in the Netherlands and consists of forest , heather and drift sand areas . Its closed forest area is the second largest in the Netherlands. It is framed by Appelscha in southeast Friesland en Doldersum, Diever, Hoogersmilde, Wapse and Vledder in Drenthe.

The Drents-Friese Wold area was declared a national park in 2000. The park is operated by the State Forestry Administration (Dutch: Staatsbosbeheer ), the Association for Natural Monuments ( Natuurmonomenten ), the Het Drentse Landschap Foundation and the Maatschappij van Weldadigheid Foundation. Only a very small part of the area is still privately owned.

In the middle of the 19th century they began to forest a large part of the extensive heather area. There are larger fir forests around the Berkenheuvel estate and in the Diverzand . In the forests there are numerous small moor lakes and clearings with heathland, for example Snoekveen and Grote Veen . The paths vary between two and 6.5 kilometers in length and can be combined. Cycle paths are similarly extensive; Two tours of 40 kilometers and one over 50 kilometers for all-terrain trips can also be combined. Covered wagons also circulate on 75 kilometers of riding trails.
