Brasílio Itiberê da Cunha (born August 1, 1846 in Paranaguá , † August 11, 1913 in Berlin ) was a Brazilian composer and diplomat .

Life

Brasílio Itiberê da Cunha came from a musical family. He received his first piano lessons at home and was soon a respected pianist in his hometown and in São Paulo . From 1866 he studied law at the University of São Paulo and entered the diplomatic service in 1870. He worked as a diplomat in Italy , Belgium , Bolivia and Peru and was finally the Brazilian ambassador in Berlin .

Brasílio Itiberê was known to famous pianists such as Arthur Rubinstein , Giovanni Sgambati and Franz Liszt . He composed his Estudo de Concerto for Rubinstein , Liszt had his rhapsody A Sertaneja in his repertoire. Da Cunha left around sixty works, thirty of which are in the Biblioteca Casa da Memória of the Fundação Cultural de Curitiba . They are mainly piano works, as well as five vocal works and three arrangements for piano and violin. He is one of the first Brazilian composers to incorporate folkloric elements into his works.
