The Brasseriehof in Flensburg is an old merchant's yard with the addresses Große Straße 42/44, whose courtyard buildings date from the 17th to 19th centuries. The farm's housing stock is now used commercially and for residential purposes and is one of the city's cultural monuments .

background

The two- storey front building from the 18th century was created by joining two houses, so that it still has two addresses today. The southern part of the building is number 42 and the northern part is number 44. There are two shops on the plastered side of the shopping street . For several decades up to the first 2000s, there was a wooden spoon fast-food restaurant in shop No. 42 . Since then, the shops there have changed again and again. The passage to the actual courtyard is in the middle of the front building. The half-timbered design from the 18th century has been preserved on the back of the front building. Behind the south side of the building no. 42 are three half-timbered side wings. The first side wing is obviously structurally strongly connected to the front building. The latter two side wings date from the 17th / 18th centuries. Century. The north side of the building No. 44 is followed by a small, single-storey intermediate building, a first southern side wing and a second southern side wing, which presumably date from the 19th century. The said north side of the courtyard looks more simply designed with its plastered wings. The east side of the courtyard is closed off by a transverse storage facility and a third north wing. The transverse storage facility was built around 1840 and has an arched passage that leads to a second courtyard, where the third side wing extends even further on the north side. The aforementioned side wing dates from 1851. The remaining buildings on the second courtyard are from more recent times.

Theodor Storm liked the brasserie courtyard, with its elevator cores and loading hatches, so much that he had his novella in the neighboring house on the left played there in 1875 . In the 1980s, the merchant's yard was repaired and has since been used by various catering establishments. For many years the brasserie "Napoleon & da Vinci" was located in the courtyard's transverse warehouse , from which the present-day name of the courtyard was apparently derived. In 2015, the Kulturhof-Café was set up there, which aims to promote encounters and social and cultural exchange between people of all ages, origins, religions or cultures, with or without a handicap . In 2016, the Kulturhof Flensburg e. V. founded. It is not for profit. The purposes of the association are international understanding, the promotion of voluntary work and urban culture. The associated meeting cafés are open from Wednesday to Sunday from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. In addition to the Kulturhof café, various cultural and social events are regularly held there these days. Since its renovation, the court ensemble has been one of the photo and postcard motifs of the sponsoring city. In more recent times, the Brasseriehof has been placed under monument protection for historical, artistic and urban planning reasons.
