The Braunschweig is a corvette of the German Navy and type ship of class 130 , also Braunschweig- class. After the ship of the line Braunschweig and the frigate Braunschweig, she is the third warship of a German navy to bear this name and named after the large and former royal seat of Braunschweig in Lower Saxony.

history

The first ship of the new corvette class was laid on December 1, 2004 in the Hamburg shipyard Blohm + Voss , on April 19, 2006 the corvette was christened Braunschweig . It is therefore the type ship of the corvette class 130 ( Braunschweig class). The sloop has the NATO - ship identifier F 260 which it in the classification of a frigate classifies.

The Braunschweig was handed over to the German Armed Forces on January 29, 2008 in Warnemünde and has been part of the 1st Corvette Squadron since it was commissioned on April 16, 2008 . She undertook her first major trip abroad to the Mediterranean and the Red Sea.

On 20 May 2009, the speedboat was Braunschweig on the name Eintracht baptized. This is intended to express the further bond with Braunschweig and the traditional football club of 1895 Eintracht Braunschweig .

After a lengthy lay in the yard due to various problems ( see under Braunschweig class ), the Braunschweig set sail again for tests for the first time in late summer 2010, and a year later she took part in Basic Operational Sea Training (BOST) for the first time with the Royal Navy in Plymouth .
