history
Brazoria was founded in 1828. In April 1838 the first school was opened and in 1846 a post office. In 1884 the place had 800 inhabitants and in 1890 already 900. From 1892 the first weekly newspaper appeared. As the railway line was built past Brazoria, the town began to decline in the 1890s, and the seat of Brazoria County was moved to Angleton in 1897. The population fell to 633 by 1904, but rose again to 1,050 by 1929. The discovery of oil deposits near the place in 1939 led to a revitalization of the place.
