The Bremen-Thedinghauser Eisenbahn (BTE) is a standard-gauge branch line that is operated in freight traffic and on which regular museum railroad operations are carried out with historical vehicles under the popular name of the railway, "Pingelheini". The railway line belongs to the neighboring communities and districts, the museum railway is operated by the non-profit association Kleinbahn Leeste eV . The route leads from Bremen through the municipalities of Stuhr and Weyhe to Thedinghausen .

history

The railway was founded under the name Kleinbahn Bremen – Thedinghausen (BTh) by the Bremisch-Hannoversche Kleinbahn -AG, which also owned the Kleinbahn Bremen – Tarmstedt . The opening of operations between Huchting and Brinkum took place on October 1, 1908. On February 1, 1910, the line was extended to Leeste, and finally to Thedinghausen on October 1, 1910.

The passenger trains started and ended at Bremen-Neustadt station. On October 1, 1955, passenger traffic was stopped. In order to maintain the line, the municipalities of Stuhr, Weyhe and Thedinghausen founded the Bremen-Thedinghäuser Eisenbahn GmbH together with the Weserbahn GmbH. This took over the route on March 1, 2000. Since then, the Weserbahn has been in charge of operations.

Locomotives of the DR series V 100 were used in construction and freight train traffic. The locomotive BTE 1001 received a black and white "cow stain paint".

The Pingelheini Museum Railway Bremen-Thedinghausen has been part of the Route of Industrial Culture in the northwest since 2010 .

Reactivation plans

Plans to use the route between Moordeich and Leeste for the Bremen tram have existed for several years. The project is not without controversy among the population; Residents of the route fear a reduction in the value of their properties, as the route sometimes runs very close to the parcels. Proponents of the extension of the tram route note, however, that the route will run through the middle of Stuhr. A tram does not allow the districts of Stuhr and Moordeich (including the Lise Meitner School) to be fully developed. Compared to the previous bus service, residents of the stops can reach the city center of Bremen without having to change by up to five minutes. In January 2008, after the municipality of Stuhr, the municipality of Weyhe also approved the implementation. It has not yet been determined when operations will start.

Partnerships

BTE is involved in the Bremen-Lower Saxony railway network .
