The Bremer Heerstraße is a historic street in Bremen in the Burglesum district, Burgdamm district . It continues in a north-south direction from the intersection with Hindenburgstrasse and Stader Landstrasse, known as the city of London , along the Bremerhaven Heerstrasse to the Lesumbrücke .

The cross streets were u. a. named as Hindenburgstraße after Paul von Hindenburg , Am Burger Bahnhof leads to Bremen-Burg train station, which, contrary to the name, is in the Burgdamm district. Like Hindenburgstrasse, Stader Landstrasse is part of the old route of Bundesstrasse 74 , an old military road between Vegesack and Stade. The Steindamm shows the course of the path from the Lesumbrücke near Burg to Marßel, which was piled up and paved as a dam in 1388. This Borchdamm gave the place its name. The Deichweg is a foot and cycle path west of Steindamm, which leads on the Lesumdeich to the Lesum district, on the one hand to Am Lesumer Hafen and on as Admiral-Brommy-Weg / Am Wasser to Vegesack, on the other hand with a branch in a northerly direction directly in the old town center of Lesum.

history

Surname

The Bremer Heerstraße was named after the Hanseatic city of Bremen to which it leads. After the formation of the municipality of Lesum, the Bremer Heerstraße and the Bremerhaven Heerstraße were given their names in 1939 instead of the name Reichsstraße 6 . In Bremen and many were military roads built after 1800 or roads designated as highways (see Bremer streets )

development

Burgdamm ( Borchdamm upen damm ) was the dam north of the Lesum, built in 1388, which led from the Geestrand through the lowlands to the Lesumbrücke , where the Bremen castle ( Borch ) was on the other side of the Lesum .
The previously Prussian settlement had only 61 inhabitants in 1821, became a municipality in 1860, in 1936 in the municipality of Lesum and in 1939 in the city of Bremen.

Between the A 27 autobahn and the western Bremer Heerstraße there is an area that is predominantly characterized by older buildings and had 1,560 inhabitants in 1905.

traffic

The Bremerstrasse and Bremerhaven Heerstrasse were part of Reichsstrasse 6 and Bundesstrasse 6 from 1936 . For a long time they were the dominant roads that led from the north into Bremen. It was replaced as a federal road in the 1970s by the A 27 motorway (also known as the Blockland motorway ). The roads are currently marked in the truck guidance network as “main roads recommended for truck traffic”.

The Bremen-Burg – Bremen-Vegesack railway branches off from the Wunstorf – Bremerhaven seaport railway at Bremen-Burg station. In passenger traffic, it is served by the regional S-Bahn lines RS 1 (Verden – Bremen – Farge) and RS 2 (Twistringen – Bremen – Bremerhaven Lehe).
