European piano competition Bremen

The European piano competition Bremen , English European Piano Contest Bremen is an international piano competition, which is held every two years since 1987th In 2011 the competition was canceled, the resumption at the usual rhythm took place in 2012. The first two events had a national character, since 1990 the competition has been held with international participation.

history

The couple Aenne and Walter Genoux approached the Bremen State Music Council in 1986 with the idea and donated the prizes for the first two competitions. The first competition started as early as 1987 with the support of Radio Bremen and Sparkasse Bremen . Only German pianists between the ages of 16 and 30 were admitted to the first two events in 1987 and 1989. Since 1990 pan-European (including the former CIS , Turkey and Israel ) participants have been admitted by agreement between the organizers .

Because of its high artistic demands and the international top-class jury, the European Piano Competition in Bremen was given a high priority. The organizers of the competition are Radio Bremen , the Bremen State Music Council , the Sparkasse Bremen, the Glocke , the German Youth Hostel Association, the Sendesaal Bremen and the Bremen Philharmonic . The current German Federal Foreign Minister takes over the patronage .

The competition program also includes a commissioned composition for piano solo as a compulsory piece. The first performance of the commissioned work will take place in the semifinals. The audience award, donated by the Weser Kurier , allows the Bremen public to participate in the competition. In addition, a double CD is being produced with the Bremen Philharmonic and Radio Bremen.
