Brenda Jones (athlete)
Brenda Jones (married Carr ; born November 17, 1936 in Leongatha , Victoria) is a former Australian sprinter and middle distance runner .
At the 1960 Olympic Games in Rome, she won the silver medal in the 800-meter run behind the Russian Lyudmila Schewzowa from the Soviet Union and ahead of the German Ursula Donath (bronze).
In 1958 she was Australian champion over 440 and 880 yards , 1963 and 1968 in cross country and 1968 in 1500 meters . In addition, she was three times national runner-up over 800 yards (1956, 1960, 1962) and once each in cross-country (1961) and over 1500 m (1969).
Even today she is still active in sports. In February 2004 she ran the half marathon in the group of 60 to 64 year olds in a respectable 1:47:36 hours and the five miles in 39:23 minutes. She ran the 10 km about 14 days later in 48:08 minutes.
