Around 1623 the alpine pasture and the dairy there was leased from Georg Stürgkh . The Brendlalm and Brendlstall have belonged to the Austrian Federal Forests since the 20th century and have been leased by the Piber Federal Stud since the 1920s. The stud uses the pasture as summer pasture for the young Lipizzaner mares, who graze here for the first three years of their lives.

In 2018, the Brendlalm was one of the three possible Styrian candidates for the ORF TV show 9 places - 9 treasures , which could be chosen by telephone vote, alongside the Duisitzkarsee and the Schüsserlbrunn pilgrimage chapel . From the vote, Schüsserlbrunn emerged as the winner.
