The Duisitzkarsee is a cirque lake in the Schladminger Tauern in the Austrian state of Styria . Due to its idyllic location, the popular photo motif is considered one of the most beautiful lakes in Styria.
Location and surroundings
The lake is 1648 m above sea level. A. in the Duisitzkar on the west side above the Obertal. It rests embedded in montane larch mixed forest between Ferchtlhöhe ( 1913 m ) to the north, Murspitzen ( 2333 m ) to the west and Duisitzer Hahnenkamp ( 2296 m ) to the south. The approximately 5.4 hectare water surface is fed by the tributary of the same name from the Buckelkarseen ( 2073 m ) to the southwest , which flows into a small delta . At the Karschwelle, a conspicuous paragneiss spur about 60 meters above the lake.
On the northeastern shore are close to the lake, the Fahrlechhütte and Duisitzkarsee, two guided usually from early June to mid-October as a restaurant (with accommodation) huts .
history

The exact meaning of the name Duisitz is not clear. However, historical documents allow the etymological development to be traced. In the “Forest Tomus” from 1760, a Maria-Theresian inventory of the forest reserves, the name Toysetz Albm can be found . In the Josephinische Landesaufnahme the lake is recorded as Toisez Kor See , in the Franziszeischen Cadaster (1824) as Toisitzkohr See . This name lasted until around 1960 and was probably replaced by the current name in the course of the first hiking maps.
The alpine huts on Duisitzkarsee already served as accommodation for the miners between 1300 and 1500 during the heyday of mining (e.g. on the zinc wall ). Parts of the Alm have been owned by the Rohrmooser families Reiter (vlg. Fahrlechner) and Stocker (vlg. Abel), who are still the landowners of the Alm since the 17th century . The Duisitzkarseehütte has been run as an inn since 1949.
Ascent
The lake has been made accessible since 1997 by a forest road which is closed to motorized individual traffic and which leads up from the Eschachalm ( 1213 m ). Three hiking trails lead to the Duisitzkarsee from different directions. The easiest way to get to the bank is in 1–1½ hours from the Eschachalm. The ascent over the Neualm ( 1618 m ) with the same starting point should take 2½ hours. The closest AV huts are the Keinsprechthütte (1½ hours) and the Ignaz-Mattis-Hütte on the Giglachseen , which can be reached via the Murspitzsattel ( 2013 m ) in 1½– 2 hours.
