Freisinggraben is a group and scattered settlement in the Voitsberg district in western Styria , which lies in the municipal areas of Bärnbach and Kainach near Voitsberg .

Place name and geography

The name part Freising- probably derives from the Slovenian brusnica for cranberry from which originally called Slavic was used vegetation name and not as a settlement name. Another derivation from the Slavic Etymon * Brusĭnica , which in turn is derived from * brus was , which means something like whetstone or beam , is also possible and would then mean something like balkenbach .

Freisinggraben is located in the central part of the municipality of Bärnbach, northwest of the main town Bärnbach and in the southern part of the municipality of Kainach bei Voitsberg, southeast of the main town of Kainach bei Voitsberg, directly on the border between the two communities. The district in Bärnbach is in the north-western part of the cadastral community Bärnbach and the eastern part of the cadastral community Piberegg while the district in Kainach near Voitsberg is in the south of the cadastral community Kohlschwarz . Freisinggraben lies on both sides of the Freisingbach and the subsequent hills.

history

Today's Freisinggraben was created as part of a high medieval clearing area in the 11th to 13th centuries and originally consisted of individual farms and wastelands. The place was first mentioned in a document in 1268/69 as Freusnitz . The place was also mentioned in documents in 1318 as Vrevznich , 1403 as the hueb an dem Frewssing , 1494 as am Freissing and finally in 1577 as Freising and Freysing Graben . At least from the 13th century on, there were sandstone quarries on Hemmerberg in Freisinggraben, which among other things produced gravestones and whetstones. In 1277, Hainzo de Freuznich from the Freising family was mentioned, who had their residence in Freisinggraben. He was also the last named in his family, which died out before 1318. After that the Reysacher had their residence on the Reintalerhof. Ernst Freisinger was mentioned in 1446 and it is known that he had pawned the Reintalerhof to the Graz Jew Schallam before 1419 . Balthasar Oberleitner owned a few tithes in Freisinggraben which he sold on June 22nd, 1482 to the parish church of Graden .

Until 1848, the inhabitants belonged to the lordship of the lordships of Alt-Kainach , Altenberg , Graden , Greißenegg , Hohenburg , Kleinkainach , Lankowitz , Obervoitsberg , Piber , Plankenwarth and Rehregg . the rule of Obervoitsberg also collected the court grain while the March feed went to the March feed office in Graz. Freisinggraben belonged to the advertising district of the Piber rule until 1846 and then to the advertising district of the Lankowitz rule.

After the end of the Second World War in 1945, the demarcation line between the English and Russian occupation troops ran through the Freisinggraben. By January 1952, Freisinggraben was electrified by the Freisinggraben transformer association . In 1976, 33 members founded the Freisinggraben agricultural community , which arose from parts of the former Piberegg Forestry Office.

Economy and Infrastructure

Freisinggraben is characterized by agriculture. The Reintalerhof, a former aristocratic residence, is now an external operation of the Piber Federal Stud and is involved in the breeding of the Lipizzaner horses . The Freisinggraben agricultural community has also been in existence since 1976. In the past there were also some sandstone quarries on Hemmerberg in Freissinggraben, which among other things produced gravestones and whetstones.
