The parish church of Graden is in the village of Graden in the municipality of Köflach in the Voitsberg district in Styria . The Roman Catholic parish church consecrated to Saint Oswald belongs to the deanery Voitsberg in the diocese of Graz-Seckau . The church and the cemetery with the war memorial chapel are under monument protection

history

Graden is mentioned in a document in 1220 as a parish in Hengistau , which suggests that the place already had a church at that time. The church itself was first mentioned in documents in 1400 and 1445 and was incorporated into St. Lambrecht Monastery until 1786 . The choir of the late Gothic church building dates from around 1460, the nave is dated to around 1530. Until the 17th century, the church was a branch of the Köflach parish church . The church building was expanded in the 18th century. Restoration work took place in 1979 and 1980.

architecture

The church is surrounded by a walled cemetery. The church tower is set in the western yoke and has a pointed helmet . There are stepped buttresses on the outer wall of the choir . On the churchyard wall is a war memorial chapel with frescoes by Franz Weiss .

The four-bay nave is spanned by a ribbed vault. The one-bay choir is the same width as the nave and has a five-eighth end . It is also vaulted by a ribbed vault, which rests on consoles , some of which are decorated with primitive heads. The ogival front arch is strongly constricted. West of the nave is a vestibule. The cross-vaulted Sebastian Chapel was added to the southern wall of the nave in the 17th century . Today's sacristy is attached to the northern nave wall . The old sacristy is north of the choir.

The ceiling stucco in the chapel is decorated with ornamental strips and primitive vine tendrils. In the choir there is a late Gothic tabernacle with a keel arch , finial and pinnacles .

Furnishing

Several statues made by Jakob Gschiel in 1879 stand on the neo-Gothic high altar . The two side altars date from the middle of the 18th century. The statues on the Marien Altar were created around 1700. The altar in the Sebastian Chapel was erected in 1716. The pulpit comes from Köflach and was erected at the end of the 17th century. There are representations of the four evangelists on its parapet . In the vestibule there is a font with a wooden structure from the early 18th century. The Baroque Stations of the Cross are partially painted over.
