geography

course

The Brettenbach rises in the Black Forest community of Freiamt near its Bildstein tines at almost 700  m above sea level. NHN . First and foremost, it flows southwest, turns to northwest at Bildstein and reaches its northernmost point at the Brettental district, after which it flows southwest to the Niedertal district, then on south course reaches Sägplatz and then on the way south-east the hamlet of Reichenbach of the community. As far as their hamlet of Keppenbach, it flows south again and then initially on a south-westerly course touches the area of the neighboring community of Sexau, which is largely to the left of the Laufes . Opposite this, initially in the west, is the urban area of Emmendingen.

After the village of Sexau, the stream turns at an acute angle to the northwest at the hamlet of Lörch in the municipality. On its last quarter of the run, it now moves along the right edge of the wide valley funnel of the Elz, which is part of the Freiburg Bay , part of the Upper Rhine Graben, in the direction of the district town of Emmendingen and flows into it from the right and at about 199  m above sea level. NHN in the Elz .

In Emmendingen, the Brettenbach separates the Mühlbach or Wuhrkanal in a south-eastern part that flows towards it from the left and a part that flows out from it in a west-north-western part.
