Career

Grant played for Xavier University for four years before being selected eighth in the 1994 NBA draft by the Sacramento Kings . Grant convinced the Kings immediately and was voted into the "NBA All-First-Rookie Team". In 1997 Grant signed a contract with the Portland Trail Blazers . With the Blazers he immediately established himself as a starting power forward and formed a highly talented starting line-up with players like Arvydas Sabonis , Isaiah Rider , Rasheed Wallace and Damon Stoudamire , which fought its way through to the conference finals of the Western Conference in 1999 and 2000. In 2000 he signed a contract with the Miami Heat . Heat's management has been criticized for giving Grant such a lavishly valued $ 86 million contract for seven years. Pat Riley defended the commitment. Grant still played his best season in 2000/01, scoring 15.2 points and 8.8 rebounds per game.

In 2004 Grant was transferred to the Los Angeles Lakers together with Lamar Odom and Caron Butler . In return, Shaquille O'Neal moved to Miami. Grant could not prevail at the Lakers and was fired after a season. In 2005 the veteran signed with the Phoenix Suns . In the 2006 NBA draft , Grant was sent to the Boston Celtics , along with the draft right to Rajon Rondo . He was released on October 27, 2006 and shortly thereafter announced his retirement from professional sport.

During his twelve year career, Grant scored 10.5 points and 7.4 rebounds per game.
