Brian Kirk (composer)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Brian Kirk is an American composer for various series and films, including the drama series Navy CIS and Navy CIS: New Orleans . He is a nine-time winner of the BMI Film & TV Award . He released his album Half Baked Ideas in 2006 , which was published on Inner Ear Records . On March 29, 2008, the third official soundtrack (also called Score) for Navy CIS was released , which Kirk composed completely. He lives in Los Angeles .

Life

Kirk learned to play the piano at a young age. In the early teens -Alter he worked experimentally in a small home studio at home and then went to college , where he music theory and composition learned. He often played jazz piano in various places in Salem ( Oregon ) , which also resulted in his devotion to film music during this time . He was inspired by artists like Prince , Keith Jarrett , John Williams , Thomas Newman , Dave Brubeck , The Beatles , Bobby McFerrin and James Newton Howard .

music

In his works, Kirk mainly uses classical instrumental sounds, which are, however, generated electronically via plug-ins , including a lot of string instruments and piano in combination with synthesizer- like sounds, with the classical instruments in the foreground and the synthesizer sounds serving more as "fine-tuning" . In Navy CIS , very special music is always played on a film set - in "Abby's Labor" (Abigail Sciuto, played by Pauley Perrette ). There mainly electric guitars and also harder synthesizer sounds are used and rather “the classical” is dispensed with. While other soundtracks of series or films often only contain small music snippets (so-called snippets ) of the respective scenes, which usually last no longer than a minute, this stylistic device was dispensed with in the NCIS TV Score . Everything was summarized in a few titles, but provided with transitions between the individual parts, which makes the titles longer and more audible. The goal of the album was "Navy CIS to hear," said Kirk.

For the eleventh season of the Navy CIS series , the official NCIS: Benchmark was released, which contains music from other artists represented in the series, including Pauley Perrette and Michael Weatherly (starring Anthony DiNozzo in Navy CIS ). The CD contains an orchestral version of the title music, which is always played after the introduction of an episode to the intro . Among other things, Hank Williams ' well-known hit "I'll never get out this World Alive" is represented.

Studio

Kirk works primarily with Logic Pro from Apple . A computer with 12 internal and 4 external processor cores is represented as hardware . His studio also received an upgrade in 2013, with all storage media being replaced by solid-state drives . Many of his plug-ins come from 8dio , which are often used by well-known artists.
