Brian May (composer)
Brian May (born July 28, 1934 in Adelaide , † April 25, 1997 in Melbourne ) was an Australian composer of film music .
Life
He trained as a pianist , violinist and conductor at the Adelaide Elder Conservatory before founding and conducting the ABC Adelaide Big Band , which later followed the ABC Melbourne Show Band . These bands played music for TV shows and series such as B. Bellbird, Return to Eden, The Last Frontier, A Dangerous Life and Darling of the Gods, while the music for them had previously been taken from records. After he had climbed the top of the Australian charts with the theme tune he had arranged for Rush , he turned increasingly to film music in 1984 and left ABC. In April 1997 he died of heart failure. In his will he set up the Brian May Scholarship , a foundation that enables budding film composers from Australia to attend the University of Southern California for nine months .
The mention of his name in the credits often leads to confusion with the famous Queen guitarist Brian May .
Awards
May received the Australian Film Award for Best Score for Mad Max. In addition to many other awards, he also received the Golden Award from the Australian Performing Rights Association.
