Brian Welch (born January 18, 1984 in Scarborough , Maine ) is a retired American ski jumper .

Career

Welch made his international debut on January 12, 2002 in the Ski Jumping Continental Cup . In Sapporo he just missed a leap into the points as 31st. Two weeks later, at the Nordic Junior World Ski Championships in 2002 in Schonach in the Black Forest , he jumped from the normal hill to 36th place.

Despite lack of success, he received a starting place for the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City . In the Utah Olympic Park Jumps he retired from the normal hill after round one, tied with his compatriot Clint Jones in 39th place. After he did not start on the large hill, he competed in the team competition together with Thomas Schwall , Clint Jones and Alan Alborn and finished eleventh in the victory of the German team.

On September 21, 2002 he won his first Continental Cup points in Calgary as 14th. He was also successful in the second competition in ninth place. A year later he celebrated the best individual result of his career with eighth place. On November 28, 2002, he finally made his debut in the ski jumping World Cup in Kuusamo . In his first two jumps in the highest series in ski jumping he remained as 45 and 55 but without winning points. In January 2003 he started again in Hakuba and Sapporo , but remained again without the big jump in the second round and thus in the points. He was then transferred back to the Continental Cup, where he remained without much success in the following three years.

Due to poor financial support from the US Ski Association, Welch ended his career in 2006.
