Thomas Schwall , also Tommy Schwall , (born August 13, 1983 in Steamboat Springs ) is a former American ski jumper .

Career

Schwall, who was active in ski jumping from 1988, was accepted into the United States national team in 2000. On February 26, 2000 he made his World Cup debut in the 1999/2000 season at Iron Mountain . In the end, however, he only finished in 60th place. After another 61st place in Iron Mountain and a 55th place in Park City, he was accepted into the Continental Cup team and removed from the A-squad. On January 12th, 2002 he reached the 14th place on the Ōkurayama ski jump in Sapporo and thus achieved his first Continental Cup points. On the following day of the competition he reached fourth place on the same hill. He achieved his first Continental Cup victory on January 26, 2002 in Westby . In the second competition on February 27th, he finished second behind Hans Petrat . Because of this good performance, he was included in the selection for the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City . There, however, he missed the individual qualification for the competition on the large hill. With the team he reached eleventh place together with Brian Welch , Clint Jones and Alan Alborn . On March 9, 2002, he was 39 at the Ski Flying World Championships 2002 on the Čerťák ski flying hill in Harrachov .

At the Continental Cup in Ishpeming on March 2, 2003 and at the Summer Continental Cup on July 20, 2003 in Calgary , he took sixth place. On July 26, 2003, he finished fifth in Salt Lake City. On August 14, 2003 he finished 17th at the Grand Prix jumping in Courchevel and thus got the only Grand Prix points in his career. At the Ski Flying World Championships 2004 in Planica he was 45th in the individual. At the COC competition on July 23, 2004 in Park City , he again reached the top ten in sixth place. At the US Championships in Steamboat Springs on January 21 and 22, 2006, he won the bronze medal behind Todd Lodwick and Clint Jones. At the 2006 Winter Olympics he was 14th in the team competition in Pragelato with the team, while he failed in the qualification in both individual competitions on the normal hill and the large hill. The Winter Olympics were also his last international competitions.
