Briest is a district of Wust-Fischbeck , a municipality in the Stendal district in Saxony-Anhalt . The L 33 runs through the village. The border with Brandenburg runs northeast 1.5 km and east 2.5 km away.

history

The place name can be traced back to the Slavic word for birch. Already in 946 the place was mentioned in the deed of transfer from Otto I. to the diocese of Havelberg . The castle was the ancestral seat of the noble family of the same name from Briest . Since the 14th century, it was owned by von Bismarck on Burgstall as a margravial fief (and should not be confused with the Bismarck'schen Gut Briest in Tangerhütte ). In 1547 there was a timber framing. In 1624 the manor house was built as a three-storey half-timbered building with exposed brick lining, consisting of two right-angled wings with high pitched roofs.

Until December 31, 2009 Briest belonged to the previously independent municipality of Wust .

church

The early Gothic village church was built around 1300 as a chapel without a tower.
