Brink's (own name: The Brink's Company ) is a global service company with headquarters in Henrico ( Virginia - USA ). The company's core business is security services and transport of valuables . In 2011, the company achieved sales of EUR 3.9 billion with branches in more than 50 countries and employed almost 71,000 people. The shares of the corporation are since 1930 in the New York Stock Exchange trading.

In North America, Brink's is also popularly used as a synonym for armored commercial vehicles that are used as value vans.

history

The company was founded in 1859 by Perry and Fidelia Brink. The first transport of valuables was carried out in 1891 and in 1927 the company put its first fully armored transport vehicle into service. In 1962, the Pittston Company acquired all shares in the company and continued to operate it as a subsidiary . In the course of an in-house restructuring, Brink's was renamed the Pittston Brink Group in 1995 and the previous Pittston Holding was renamed Brink's Company in 2003 .

On January 31, 2006, the subsidiary BAX Global was sold to Deutsche Bahn for US $ 1.1 billion . In 2008, Brink's outsourced its home security services to its independent subsidiary, Broadview Security , which was acquired in May 2010 by ADT Corporation , a subsidiary of Tyco International , for US $ 2 billion .

In Germany, the company has been based in Frankfurt since 1973 as Brink's-Schenker GmbH. In 1981, Security Express Sicherheitsdienste GmbH was purchased, which initially operated under the name Brink's-Schenker GmbH Hamburg. With the establishment of the security company Brink's-Schenker Guard GmbH in 1985, the expansion of the range of services was advanced. In 1994 the company was renamed Brink's Sicherheit GmbH and in 1998 Brink's-Schenker GmbH was renamed Brink's Deutschland GmbH.

On February 1, 2013, it became known that the German business division “Money and Valuations” would be taken over by the Prosegur company . The takeover of Brink's Deutschland GmbH took place on December 9, 2014 after approval by the cartel office. Brink's is now still active in Germany with Brink's Sicherheit GmbH as well as with the companies Global Services and Pan European Transport.

Brink's is a provider of security services to government institutions and commercial customers. The main areas of business are the transport of money for banks and retailers, security guards and property protection for airports and shipping ports as well as other potentially endangered facilities and the worldwide transport of valuables for jewelers and mining companies.

Incidents

Brink's branches as well as the transport of money and valuables have often been the target of predatory attacks in the past .

In a robbery on the night of January 17, 1950 on a Brink's building in Boston , eleven men stole cash worth over a million dollars. Although the perpetrators were later arrested, only a fraction of the booty was recovered. The event was filmed in 1978 as The Big Thing at Brinks with Peter Falk in the lead role.

Two police officers and a security guard from Brink's were killed in an attempted robbery of a Brink's armored car on October 20, 1981.

On November 26, 1983, there was an armed robbery of a Brink's warehouse near Heathrow Airport , in which three tons of gold bars worth € 26 million were stolen.

The fifth largest heist in American history occurred in 1993 when a Brink's vehicle depot was robbed in Rochester when four men stole $ 7.4 million. The later crime writer Sam Millar was involved in the robbery .

In an attack on a Brink's transport at Brussels Airport on the evening of February 18, 2013 , the perpetrators were able to steal diamonds worth 50 million dollars.
