Brixtonboogie is a play on words. The first part of the band name gives a reference to the district of the same name in south London , known for its music scene and symbolic role as Soul of Black Britain - a place that Kreuzer often visited in the 1980s. The second part, Boogie , is a reference to a piano style of the early twenties in the USA , which harmoniously corresponds to the blues scheme and, as a dance rhythm, conveys an expression of joie de vivre.

Krisz Kreuzer began at the age of 15, influenced and inspired by the first blues masters such as Son House , Elmore James , Sonny Boy Williamson and Muddy Waters , to make music with the guitar and the blues harp . In the following years he appeared in various rhythm and blues and reggae bands in his hometown of Münster . Despite various activities as a pop promoter, festival organizer, TV presenter and then as a music producer in Hamburg, Kreuzer has remained true to his passion for blues over the years. His old blues record collection gave him the idea in late 2004 to play a modern urban version of this music that would complement the depth and spirituality of this ancient tradition with contemporary sounds and currents. Kreuzer laid his musical ambition primarily in the task of “creating a new sound from old blues influences mixed with other styles”. In order to realize this concept he founded the band collective "Brixtonboogie" in 2005 with musician friends.

In September 2009 the debut album of the group Urban Blues was released . Most of the plays were written by Kreuzer and co-authors. The album also includes two songs by John Lee Hooker with the sampled vocals of the blues legend, and a blues-heavy cover version of the Depeche Mode song Policy Of Truth .

Brixtonboogie is a multinational band. The current line-up (as of September 2009) consists of Wayne Martin (vocals) from New Orleans , Mascha Litterscheid (vocals) from Hamburg, Bryan Sanders (rap) from Las Vegas , Trina Hamlin (vocals) from New York City and Nataly Dorra ( Singing), who was born in Cameroon and grew up in Germany. Other musicians are Oliver Schmitt (guitar, bass), Van Wolfen (guitar, Dobro ), Michi Pahlich ( drums ) and DJ Suro ( turntables ). Krisz Kreuzer (guitar, bass, harp) sees himself as the initiator and host of this music collective.

style

Brixtonboogie combine traditional blues with musical influences from different eras in their sound. Through the use of stylistic devices from jazz , funk , rock music , soul , hip-hop , dubstep and electronic elements, the band collective breaks conventional boundaries of the genre without denying the roots. In this way, a sound is created which, in its entirety, is described by the critics as a kind of blues crossover , with the blues "acting as a hinge, as a support and pivot of the individual style elements".
