Bronislaw Abramowicz

Bronisław Abramowicz (* 1837 in Załuchów in Volhynia , Congress Poland ; † July 17, 1912 in Kraków ) was a Polish painter who created Polish and religious historical motifs , genre pictures , hunting and forest scenes and portraits . In his later phase he devoted himself to restoring sculptures and paintings in Krakow churches.

Life

Bronisław Abramowicz was born in Załuchów in 1837 to a noble family.

From 1858 to 1861 he attended the Warsaw School of Fine Arts . In 1861 he took part in the uprising in which he was the adjutant of Marian Langiewicz .

He then studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich , where he painted a portrait of Ludwig II in 1867.

From 1870 to 1874 he was a student at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna , from 1872 to 1874 with Eduard von Engerth . He graduated from the Vienna Academy with distinction. However, he only finished his studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow in Jan Matejko's master class , which is not documented.

From 1868 to 1901 he exhibited his paintings in Cracow, 1871 and 1877 in Lemberg , from 1872 to 1879 in Warsaw, 1867 in Munich and in 1871, 1873, 1876 and 1877 in Vienna. For his painting Das Gastmahl bei Wierzynek he was made an honorary member of the Vienna Art Association in 1876.

In his late creative phase he devoted himself to the restoration of paintings and sculptures. For example, he restored the figural parts of the choir stalls in St. Mary's Church in Cracow, the wings of the triptych in the Aegidius Church in Cracow and the image of Our Lady of Sorrows in Cracow's Franciscan Church .
