Alfred Meister

Alfred Meister (born May 22, 1888 in Stettin , † 1914 ) was a German painter .

In addition to school lessons, Alfred Emil Gustav Meister received private lessons from the Szczecin landscape painter Marie Kowalewski. From 1905 to 1908 he studied at the art school in Weimar with Hans Olde , Max Thedy and Ludwig von Hofmann . From 1909 to 1911 he studied at the Académie Ranson in Paris with Maurice Denis and Paul Sérusier .

As early as 1908, he had set up a studio in Neuendorf on the island of Wollin . In 1912 Meister got in touch again with his former fellow student in Weimar, Hans Arp , who was a founding member of the Swiss artist group “Der Moderne Bund”, which is closely related to the “ Blauer Reiter ”. Meister traveled again to Paris and carried out intensive studies there. From Impressionism he approached Expressionism and finally Cubism .

Alfred Meister died at the front in World War I when he was twenty-six.

In 2008 the Muzeum Narodowe Szczecin held a special exhibition on Alfred Meister.
