Brookshire is a city in Waller County in the US state of Texas in the United States .

geography

The city is on US Highway 90 and 3960 km east-west trending Interstate 10 , in the south of Waller County, about 50 km west of Houston . It has a total area of ​​9.1 km 2 without any significant water surface.

history

Brookshire was incorporated as a city in 1946. It was named after Captain Nathan Brookshire, a member of Stephen F. Austin's 5th column in 1835. The first post office was opened in 1893 and the first newspaper, the Brookshire Times, was published a short time later. In 1920 the population had risen to 1250 and in 1980 it was 2244 inhabitants.
