Brotha Lynch Hung (born January 10, 1971 in Sacramento , California ; real name Kevin Danell Mann ) is an American rapper, who was best known for his controversial lyrics.

Life

childhood

Mann grew up in Sacramento, California, he often listened to music by Slick Rick and Rakim, and at the age of 11 he started making rap music himself. According to his own statements, man is manic-depressive and his mental illness has a strong influence on his texts.

As a member of the Garden Blocc Crips, he was often involved in gang conflicts. While trying to settle the dispute between a member of the Crips and a rival Blood at a party, he is shot in the side of the body. He describes these experiences several times in his texts.

Mann has been in a relationship with his fiancé Laura Yvettea Brinson for six years . Brinson had guest appearances on the albums Snuff Tapes , The Gas Station , Dinner and a Movie , and Coathanga Strangla, among others .

Musical career

In 1991 Mann was active together with the rappers X-Raided and Sicx under the name Street Talk Crew , X-Raided is later sentenced to life and Sicx to 32 years imprisonment. Street Talk Crew recorded a tape called Niggaz in Blacc , which Mann describes as one of his best musical works. Among other things, Mann produced 11 of 12 tracks on X-Raided's debut album Psycho Active , he also had a guest appearance on the song Ho's E Schemin Too and on a Skit together with Sicx on KRD's album Sac Town Funk .

In 1992 Brotha Lynch Hung began working on his album 24 Deep , which was released in 1993 on Black Market Records. The album peaked at number 91 on the Billboard charts.

His second album "Season of da Sicness" was released in 1995 and contains some of his most famous tracks. The album was also released through Black Market Records.

His third album Loaded was released in 1997, and a special feature of the album are the prominent guest appearances by Kokane , E-40 and Ice-T . The album reached number 28 in the charts, making it Brotha Lynch Hung's highest-ranking musical work.

Several solo albums, mixtapes and collabo albums followed, among others with the artists MC Eiht , Sicx and COS.

Strange Music

In May 2009, Mann signed with Tech N9ne 's Strange Music label. In March 2010, Mann released his album Dinner and a Movie , which sold over 7,000 times in the first week. His second album with Strange Music Coathanga Strangla came out a year later, in April 2011. His third album on Strange Music Mannibalector was released in February 2013.

controversy

In September 1996, 18-year-old Joseph Gallegos repeatedly heard the piece of music "Locc 2 da Brain" before he shot three of his friends. Gallegos was killed in a shooting with police officers after the crime. Although depression and his girlfriend's breakup were possible motives, it was not excluded that music played a role in the murders.
