brotZeit eV is a non-profit association that provides children in need at elementary and special needs schools with breakfast throughout Germany. In the free periods and after school he also looks after the students with their leisure activities. So far, the association's work has been based exclusively on private initiative. Bavaria's Prime Minister Horst Seehofer announced in his government statement on November 12, 2013 that the Free State of Bavaria would "work with the brotZeit association to set up a supervised breakfast menu at elementary and special schools" in the new legislative period.

activities

The association is active in the funding regions of Berlin , Braunschweig , Dresden , Frankfurt am Main , Hamburg , Heilbronn , Leipzig , Munich , Middle Franconia and Rhine-Ruhr. He concentrates on the projects “giving bread” and “giving time”. This gave rise to the club's name when it was founded in 2009. brotZeit eV has also set itself the goal of combining childcare with active support for the elderly. Seniors are responsible for looking after the children at breakfast and afterwards.

"Give bread"

According to parent and teacher associations, up to 30 percent of primary school students come to class hungry. The association therefore organizes a free communal breakfast for the schools and students every morning at more than 200 schools in Germany. Around 4,500 children make use of this every day. The students are looked after by seniors who also prepare the buffet and set the tables. The groceries are provided free of charge by a large retail chain. In 2012, the association served a total of around 400,000 breakfasts.

"Give time"

The association also looks after the children through the senior citizens during the free periods and after class. This includes help with homework and leisure activities in culture and sports groups. Reading and chess projects are important cornerstones.

Board

The actress Uschi Glas founded the association together with her husband, the management consultant Dieter Hermann, and the Munich lawyer Harald Mosler as well as other people in 2009. These three still form the board of brotZeit eV today
