Brownanthus is a plant kind from the family of aizoaceae (Aizoaceae).

description

The species of the genus Brownanthus are prostrate to upright shrubs with fibrous roots that reach heights of 15 to 100 centimeters. The articulated internodes are weakly woody. The green bark is succulent and contains additional vascular bundles with tightly packed, xeromorphic, large bladder cells . Their almost cylindrical leaves are obtuse triangular or runny. The leaves are consistently arranged cross-opposite. They are free or briefly grown together at the base. The leaves soon fall off or survive as leather-like thorns. They contain central water-storing cells as well as loosely arranged, mesomorphic bladder cells.

The flowers appear singly or form cymes and have a diameter of 5 to 25 millimeters. The four to five sepals are briefly fused at their base and continuously upright during the flowering period. The white or cream-colored petals are not fused together at the base. Thread-like staminodes are missing. The nectaries are narrow. There are one or numerous ovules per capsule .

The three to five-compartment capsule fruits have flap wings. The swelling bars of the capsules are fused together in the middle of the fruit. The capsule fruits contain numerous or one to three, brown to cream-colored, D-shaped or pear-shaped seeds . The seeds measure 1 to 1.5 millimeters in diameter. Their seed coat is rough or more or less smooth.
