Bruce Ford (born August 15, 1956 in Lubbock , Texas ) is an American opera singer ( tenor ).

Life

After starting out at the Houston Opera in Texas, he went to Germany in 1983 on the advice of Marilyn Horne . Here he was engaged at the opera houses in Wuppertal, Mannheim and Düsseldorf-Duisburg. He became known when he stepped in for Ricciardo e Zoraide at the Rossini Opera Festival Pesaro in 1990 . Since then, he has made a name for himself as a specialist in rarely performed bel canto operas. He sang u. a. at the Vienna State Opera (1990–1992), the Covent Garden Oper London (1991), at the Teatro alla Scala in Milan (1995), as well as at the Festival d'Aix-en-Provence (1985), at the Salzburg Festival (1993) , Glyndebourne Festival (1995) and Edinburgh Festival (1997).

His repertoire includes roles such as Count Almaviva in Il barbiere di Siviglia , the title role in Otello and Lindoro in L'italiana in Algeri by Rossini , the title role in Mitridate and Ferrando in Così fan tutte by Mozart and Edgardo in Lucia di Lammermoor by Gaetano Donizetti .
