Bruce Foster Sterling

Bruce Foster Sterling (born September 28, 1870 in Masontown , Fayette County , Pennsylvania , †  April 26, 1945 in Uniontown , Pennsylvania) was an American politician . Between 1917 and 1919 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Bruce Sterling attended the common schools and the State Normal School in California . He then studied until 1895 at West Virginia University in Morgantown . After a subsequent law degree and his admission as a lawyer in 1896, he began to work in Uniontown in this profession. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Democratic Party . In 1906 he was a member of the House of Representatives from Pennsylvania . In 1912, 1920 and 1924 he took part as a delegate at the respective Democratic National Conventions .

In the 1916 congressional election , Sterling was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the 23rd  constituency of Pennsylvania , where he succeeded Republican Robert Freeman Hopwood on March 4, 1917 . Since he was not confirmed in 1918, he could only complete one legislative period in Congress until March 3, 1919 . This was shaped by the events of the First World War .

After serving in the US House of Representatives, Bruce Sterling returned to practice as a lawyer. In 1935, 1939, and 1943 he was an executor ( Register of Wills ) and bailiff at the Fayette County Orphan Court. He died on April 26, 1945 in Uniontown, where he was also buried.
