Robert Freeman Hopwood (born July 24, 1856 in Uniontown , Fayette County , Pennsylvania , †  March 1, 1940 in Saint Petersburg , Florida ) was an American politician . Between 1915 and 1917 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Robert Hopwood attended the public schools in his home country and was taught at times by private tutors. After a subsequent law degree and his admission as a lawyer in 1879, he began to work in Uniontown in this profession. At the same time he embarked on a political career as a member of the Republican Party . He became their county chairman in Fayette County. Between 1881 and 1891 he was also the legal representative of the city of Uniontown; from 1894 to 1912 he served as a district attorney. From 1905 to 1920 he directed the Uniontown Hospital .

In the 1914 congressional election , Hopwood was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the 23rd  constituency of Pennsylvania , where he succeeded Democrat Wooda Nicholas Carr on March 4, 1915 . Since he was not confirmed in 1916, he could only serve one term in Congress until March 3, 1917 .

After his time in the US House of Representatives, Robert Hopwood practiced as a lawyer again. He died on March 1, 1940 in his winter residence, Saint Petersburg, and was buried in Uniontown.
