The Bruniales are a plant order of the asterids . They comprise two families with 14 genera and are native to the Kapensis and Central and South America.

description

The types of order show only a few morphological similarities. Bruniales are woody, evergreen plants, only a trace of leaves branches off at a node and leaves a gap. Their flowers are zygomorphic , the anthers fused at the base. The ovules are weakly crassinucellate.

Systematics

The Bruniales are within the Euasteriden II the sister group of a clade of cardelike , umbelliferae and Paracryphiales . It contains only two families:

The taxa of the order as well as the order itself were often rearranged, in particular the Columelliaceae were often placed among the cardiforms . The species of the different genera share relatively few morphological characteristics with each other, the relationship is more likely to be determined by molecular genetics. The age of the order is estimated to be just under 94 million years.
