Brunn is the name of a middle-market nobility family with the same name as the parent company in Havelland. Since 1853 the name Brunn called von Kauffungen has also been used, the management of which was approved by Prussian cabinet orders. The von Brunn are of the same tribe and coat of arms as the Itzenplitz .

history

The family is first mentioned in a document in 1257 with Daniel de Brunnen . The family line begins in 1540 with Hans von Brunn. In 1788 only two living members of the von Brunn family are named. These are Albrecht Georg Friedrich Wilhelm von Brunn and Casper Siegmund Julius Friedrich von Brunn. Both were lieutenants in the Möllendorf infantry regiment ( Old Prussian Infantry Regiment No. 15 ).

coat of arms

Arms of the von Brunn family, mistakenly with mastiffs instead of bears

The family coat of arms shows in red a silver diagonal right bar covered with three black bear heads with gold collars and rings. On the helmet with red-silver blankets a growing black bear with a ringed gold collar made of three (red-silver-red) ostrich feathers.

In the first half of the 19th century, brown mastiffs' heads were mistakenly shown in Tyroff's coat of arms, and the mastiff was shown growing on the helmet.

Important representatives

Alsatian noble family

There was also a nobility from Alsace . The headquarters are presumed to be in Niederbronn-les-Bains . In 1378 a Wilhelm von Born (or Burne) was recorded on the nearby Wasenburg , which could possibly mean the father of the later Würzburg Bishop Johann II von Brunn , Wilhelm von Brunn († 1401).

The verifiable coat of arms differs significantly from the aforementioned Mittelmark gender, which suggests that the names are identical without any family ties.
