Life
Bruno Bielefeld was trained at the teaching institute of the Kunstgewerbemuseum Berlin and at the art and trade school in Danzig , there by Adolf Maennchen among others . In 1912 Bielefeld returned to Germany and settled in Berlin. He specialized in depictions of old Berlin , his main motif were the districts of historic Berlin, which are doomed to decline due to constant renovation. Bielefeld became generally known through the large-scale portfolio of the Dürerbund “Aus Ostpreussens Not” , which contained sketches of the destroyed East Prussia . Numerous depictions of cities , etchings, poster designs and illustrations followed . In 1945, in his sketchbook “Pictures from Germany”, he presented the situation in the post-war period and primarily drew the destroyed Berlin. Towards the end of his work, he mainly painted pictures of the Havel landscape. Much of his work was destroyed in World War II. The Märkisches Museum Berlin and the German Museum in Munich have four and two works by Bielefeld, respectively.
