Bruno Bossi

Bruno Bossi (born October 25, 1901 in Lugano ; † August 27, 1993 in Agno ) was a Swiss architect .

Life

Bruno Bossi was the son of Emilio Bossi , lawyer, journalist and politician (also known by the pseudonym Milesbo), and the nephew of Francesco Bossi, also an architect. He first attended the Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera and finished his studies in 1929 at the University of Rome . His first important work, the Viarnetto psychiatric building in Lugano, dates from 1934.

Bossi won the 1935 competition for the reconstruction of the Lugano district, called Sassello , with a project that reinterpreted the aesthetics and systems of Marcello Piacentini's architecture . In the same year he became an architect for the city of Lugano, a position he held until 1937 when he returned to the profession. Between 1935 and 1940 he also worked in the editorial team of the Rivista Tecnica della Svizzera italiana .

In 1938 he built the new headquarters of Pax Assicurazioni in Via Nassa and in 1944 won the competition for the Lugano master plan. He had the idea of ​​a tunnel Manno - Cornaredo and a second tunnel Cornaredo - Lugano station, which should free the center of vehicle traffic. In 1947 he built the building for the Banco di Roma per la Svizzera based on the project for the Sassello district.

After a long time in which he managed the construction of several apartment buildings, he won the competition for the new Art Museum Lugano in 1959 with a project that was never realized. After 1960 he asserted himself in the planning and construction of several villas, including the Villa Weith in Cureglia in 1968 . From 1973 to 1980 he was involved in the spatial planning and design of various commercial buildings in the municipality of Pazzallo .
