Bruno Reichlin (born February 10, 1941 in Lucerne ) is a Swiss architect , university professor and furniture designer who planned and built key buildings for the Ticino school with Fabio Reinhart in the Reichlin and Reinhart offices .

Scientific career

Reichlin studied at the ETH Zurich , where he graduated with Alfred Roth in 1967 . He then worked as a research assistant with Giovanni Klaus Koenig at the Institute for the History of Modern Architecture in Florence from 1969–70 , attended the summer academy courses in semiotics at the University of Urbino in 1971 and 1972 , and was then assistant to Aldo Rossi from 1972–74 and 1972–81 research assistant at the institute gta of the ETH. From 1983 to 1985 he taught as a visiting professor at the École d'architecture in Nancy , in 1984 he was offered a call to Geneva , where he was full professor until 2006, responsible, among other things, for the post-graduate studies that later became the doctoral program. From 2001 to 2011 he was a professor at the Accademia di Architettura , the Italian-speaking Swiss architecture school in Mendrisio . In addition, he took part in the architecture discussion as a publicist, critical companion of contemporary architecture and as an exhibition organizer.

Architectural activity

In 1970 he founded an office in Lugano with Fabio Reinhart . After both of them had worked as assistants for two years at Aldo Rossi , in the mid-1970s they began to submit mainly Ticino villa designs that referred to the ambiguity and integration of various architectural elements and traditions, such as the Casa Tonini in Torricella , which recognizes the Palladian vocabulary Villas reflected. With their independent attitude, however, they distanced themselves from the Ticino school. The office worked with Bétrix and Consolascio in the late 1970s and with Santiago Calatrava in the early 1980s . Reichlin was awarded honorary membership of the Association of German Architects (BDA ) in 1983 .
