Bruno Sommerer

Bruno Sommerer (born March 1, 1907 in Leipzig ; † July 30, 1973 ) was a German trade unionist . He was chairman of the central board of the trade union in the FDGB .

Life

Sommerer, the son of a carpenter , attended elementary school , completed a commercial training and later worked as a commercial clerk. In 1924 he joined the Central Association of Employees (ZdA) and in 1927 the Communist Party of Germany (KPD). Sommerer was also a member of the Reich leadership of the Red Sports International .

After the Nazis "seized power " in 1933, Sommerer took part in the resistance, was arrested and imprisoned as a " protective prisoner " in the Colditz and Sachsenburg concentration camps. After his release in 1934, he worked as an advertising agent. In 1940 he was drafted into the Wehrmacht and in 1945 he was taken prisoner by the US .

After his return from captivity, he joined the Socialist Unity Party of Germany (SED) and the Free German Trade Union Federation (FDGB) in 1946 . In 1946/1947 he worked as a party functionary in Dresden and was temporarily deputy head of the SED district leadership there. Between 1947 and 1949, Sommerer was the executive secretary of the Saxon state board of the FDGB employees' union and a member of the state party control commission of the SED state leadership in Saxony. From 1949 to 1952 Sommerer acted as chairman of the central board of the trade union and was a member of the FDGB federal board, at times also a member of its executive committee. Between 1950 and 1953 he completed a distance learning course at the party college "Karl Marx" of the SED. From 1953, Sommerer headed the labor supply, construction and housing department in the FDGB Federal Executive Committee, and later the union control brigade for the textile industry. Most recently, Sommerer worked as a member of the central board of the science union.
